A s part of the final phase of the Columbia River Channel Deepening Project, Chico, California - based construction and marine contractor, J.E. McAmis, Inc. won the Corps of Engineers’ Portland District US$52M contract for Rock Removal at St. Helens and Longview. McAmis began dredging in October and blasting in November 2009 utilizing its backhoe (BB) dredge Megan-Renee accompanied by its drill barge Macy-Renee at St. Helens, mile 88 on the Columbia River in Oregon (OR). McAmis blasted basalt rock from parts of the ri- verbed and the Megan - Renee removed 550,000 yd3 of rock and sand which deepened the Columbia from -40 ft to -43 ft which was completed in February 2010.
The Longview portion of the final phase began in January by Dutra with McAmis beginning in March 2010 to finish by December 31, 2010 removing an extra 2.5M yd3 of dredged material.
